Federation Minutes  June 12, 2025

  • June 12, 2025 Regular Delegates Meeting  
  • Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge, Poughkeepsie, NY  
  • The meeting was opened at 7:37 PM by President Anthony Pittore  
  • The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Anthony Pittore.  
  • A moment of silence was observed for armed services personnel, first responders, and past Federation  members.  
  • Roll Call: 29 people were in attendance, representing 21 clubs.

Financial Report and Minutes 

The Treasurer’s Report was accepted upon a motion by Jim Guyette and a second by Tom Harding.  All-in-favor (AIF).  

The minutes of the previous delegates meeting on May 8, 2025 were approved upon a motion by  Chris Villa and a second by Jim Guyette. AIF  

The minutes of the Board of Directors meeting on June 2, 2025 were approved upon a motion  by Chris Villa and a second by Steve Grotzinger. AIF  

Committee Reports 

Annual Dinner/BBQ  

The Bill Conners Memorial barbecue will be held on August 24, flyers and tickets are available.  

Hunters Helping the Hungry  

Anthony Pittore reported that the cooler shut down and one deer was lost. Anthony called Crystal Clear and  they responded the next day and repaired the cooler and it is back up and running. The Board of directors is  still looking into a fail-safe system to be installed for the freezers and the walk-in cooler.  

Fish  

Anthony Pittore reported that over 800 2-year-old trout were released into the Wappinger creek at four different locations last week. Mike Butts reported that he and Anthony will be setting up a meeting with Bob  Adams from DEC to discuss Fish Stocking and Fish access locations throughout Dutchess County. 

Jr. Hunter Pheasant Hunt  

Anthony Pittore reported that the Youth Pheasant Hunt will be September 27, 2025. Applications were  handed out to the delegates, and Anthony reminded the delegates that they will still have to sign up on the  DEC website. Anthony reported flyers will be out once the DEC website is working and the youth hunt is  approved. Applicants will have to sign up @ NY.gov/mentoredhunts  

Conservation Education  

Dave Morrison reported that we now have 7 kids that are signed up for the DEC conservation camps this  summer.  

Fundraising  

CAF K9 cancer shoot:  

  • Tom Fiumarello reported that we have 280 shooters for the k9 shoot on June 21 at Mid-Hudson Sporting  Clays. Tom reported that paws for a cause Friday night event has over 70 people signed up. The event should  be a great time, including a band, food, and giveaways.  
  • Tom also mentioned that he and Anthony were on a podcast called home from here with John Burton.  Anthony stated that he and Tom Fiumarello were also on the Oldies channel 98.9 FM WGNY.  
  • Tom Fiumarello reported that if you wanted to come for just lunch at the k9 shoot, the cost is $60.  

Youth Trap Shooting  

Tom Gannon thanked all the clubs, including our new shooting club, Chestnut Ridge.  Tom stated the smaller kids have been shooting a 28 gauge, and Anthony stated that he purchased two more  flats of 28 gauge for the smaller kids.  

Legislation (and other conservation news)  

  • See Tom Gannon’s report, which was emailed after the meeting.  
  • Tom also advised the delegates to go on NYsenate.gov website.  
  • Anthony stated that he and Tom Gannon will attend the region 3 Fish and Wildlife board meeting at DEC  Wednesday night June 18.  

New York State Conservation Council  

Anthony reported that he has been on numerous zoom meetings with the council on different committees. The  council is backing around 12 resolutions, including full inclusion for crossbow, early bear season, and  allowing 12-year-olds to hunt from a tree stand with supervision. Anthony also stated that he and Tom  Gannon will attend the fall meeting. ANTHONY once again stated that the council is moving in a positive  direction, and Anthony also urged that the delegates and their clubs join the New York State conservation  council and handed out applications. Anthony also stated that there are upgrades to the New York State  conservation council’s website, and advised all delegates to take a look.  

Communications  

Sandy from Lagrange Parks and Recreation sent a thank you note for participating in their muddy hands event  

Unfinished (Old) Business  

  • Anthony reported that Kevin Haight is still waiting to hear back from Sheriff Imperati in Support of full rifles  in Dutchess County. 
  • Anthony reported that a junior Federation member was being harassed while fishing at Upton Lake and a  DEC officer was contacted.  
  • Anthony reported that he attended a lake association meeting at Silver Lake. The meeting’s purpose was to  discuss how the lake association will deal with the fan wart infestation problem. 
  • Anthony was asked by the board of the Lake association to contact DEC fisheries and ask for their advice.  

New Business  

Tom Gannon reminded the delegates that early voting starts October 25, make sure you are registered and go  out and vote.  

Announcements  

  • Northern Dutchess Rod & Gun, June 22, .22 Woods walk, 8 AM registration.  
  • Millbrook Rod & Gun, June 22 9:30 AM, Skeet and Trap trophy shoot.  
  • 110 Rod and Gun, Sunday June 15, three gun shoot 8 AM registration.  
  • Crum Elbow has an annual gun raffle.  
  • Hudson Valley Sportsmen, June 28, bow course, register at DEC website  
  • Millerton Gun Club, July 26, trapping course, register at DEC website  

The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 PM.
